This research, developed in partnership with the International Council on Clean Transportation, offers fresh evidence that electric trucks are poised to improve affordability across the freight economy. Our analysis finds battery electric heavy-duty trucks could be cheaper than diesel counterparts across major vehicle types by 2030 in most states.
This shift has the potential to reduce freight costs, ease consumer price pressures, and strengthen U.S. competitiveness. The study uses a total cost of ownership approach, factoring in vehicle acquisition, operations, and maintenance over a five-year period.
